4 Unique Ways To Stay Cool In The Summer Heat

The summer time is one of the most anticipated times of the year. But we all know that with the excitement and fun opportunities to play outside also come the summer heat.

I know you’re tough but the truth is that if you don’t protect yourself properly the consequences could be fatal. Our best advice is to think cool thoughts. In conjunction with that here are a few unique ways to stay cool this summer.

The best thing that you could do is to stay hydrated. Drinking lots of water is critical. You won’t know that you have become dehydrated until you are dehydrated. I’ve also seen people with large shaded hats or umbrella’s. That’s a great idea!drinking-water-in-sun

Eat for the season. This bit of advice can help you if you are looking to manage your weight a little more also. If it’s 97 degrees outside you will feel very uncomfortable if you go to a buffet and have a plate of turkey, mac and cheese, dressing, candy yams, greens, a glass of diet coke, a biscuit and some chocolate cake. Use your energy in a better way and eat light. You might consider eating lighter meals more frequently throughout the day. Eat for fuel not to get full.

Take time during the day to just relax. Find some air conditioning and take it in. Breath easy and let your body feel the cool breeze. You can’t take the A/C outside with you but you can bring the cool thoughts along.

If you do all of these things remember this. Don’t engage in conversations about how hot the weather is. You’ll just think it’s hotter and hotter. The way you think about the situation will have a big impact on how you deal with it.

I was catching up on the morning news on this beautiful Tuesday morning. ABC News Online has all the goods and the best part about watching the news on the Internet is that I get to select my information. I don’t have to be bombarded with the negatives, I normally just highlight the good and what I think is important news. But I ran into something that has just filled me with so much joy.

GMC has teamed up with the Dude Perfect crew and they are making some extreme shots. Basket ball is my favorite sport and I have never seen any shots like these.

Dude… Perfect! — These six college students were blessed to be able to have the opportunity to take part in an ad-campaign for the NBA playoffs sponsored by GMC Sierra Trucks. That’s what they told me when I went over to the Dude Perfect blog. I even watched more of their video’s. I must say that after spending some time watching these video’s I really felt light, joyful and ready to take on the world. It’s something about making great jump shots from seemingly impossible places that raises your self confidence.

Before Involving Others On Making Decisions You Should Know 3 Things

June 2, 2010 by Keenan

What is the first thing that we do when in the face of a huge situation or when we are planning? Most of the time we go to a friend. The first thing that we should do is to just sit quietly. Listen, you might see the circumstance from a different perspective. How we see a situation will determine the moves that we’ll make. Advice is a good thing. I remember a time when I was to stubborn to even ask for help but when I finally did, OMG! I was grateful. With that being said here are 3 things that you should know before involving others on making a decision.

decision time

  • Is It Validation or Advice that I am Looking for?
We can easily just be looking for someone to pat us on the back and say “yes, what you are doing is correct, keep doing it.” It may be the right time but wrong option or wrong application to the right time. The big thing here is to locate yourself. If you are looking for someone else to validate your emotions even though what you feel down in your gut is telling you otherwise then don’t lie to yourself about that. Just know that it may not turn out how you want it to.

  • Can I handle the Truth, Even When it Hurts?
Seeking advice without an open mind is like mining for gold while blindfolded: even if you came across a “golden nugget,” you would never even realize it? The truth hurts. The person may advise you to do something you really don’t want to do. They may tell you that your brilliant idea has a huge flaw. This is where humility and prudence comes into play. Faithful are the wounds of a friend and it is a wise man who receives instruction. If you can stand hearing the words “You’re Wrong” then you are definitely in position to prosper. But If you are not willing to be corrected save yourself the time and energy and don’t even ask for advice.

  • Am I being Emotional or Logical?
Sometimes our emotions can try to become louder than the right way. Ultimately you are in control of your own life. I am not telling you to ignore any ones advice. You don’t have to take every word that everyone tells you. Heck, I’ve turned down plenty of advice before and turned out on top. But you must realize why you are not going to take advantage of the advice. Is it because you heard something that you didn’t want to hear in the first place and it makes you feel uncomfortable? Or because you have thoroughly thought the situation through and you realize that faith is required.

Next time you are face with a big decision or you are formulating a plan of action just think back to these three steps. Make sure that your decision is thought out thoroughly. Am I being logical or emotional? Can I handle the Truth, Even When it Hurts? Is It Validation or Advice that I am Looking for? These questions can save you big time in the end.

I hope that this information has been beneficial. Share our blog post with your friends. Thank you. Be sure to follow us on Twitter as well.

The Best Weight Loss Tracking Tool

fruits and veggiesIn an effort to lose some weight I thought I’d join an online site that helped me track my caloric intake, exercise and weight loss goals. I checked out quite a few. A lot of the sites charge a monthly fee which I was a hesitant to pay. I wanted to be able to try one for free then decide if it was worth spending the money.

Then, I stumbled upon Livestrong.com. The website has tons of tips, tricks, recipes and tools to help you live healthy. I now use the MyPlate tool to track everything. It’s super easy to set-up and completely free! It calculates how many calories you should eat a day based on your weight and eating goals.

After you set-it up, all you have to do is enter in what you eat and the site does the rest. It tracks your calories, fat, protein and carbs and if you exercise, you can calculate the burned calories into your daily goal. The MyPlate tool is simply amazing and did I mention FREE! The site has almost any food you could possibly want, but if it’s not in their database you can add it!

So go on and join….you can thank me later.

You know that green little check on certain brands of cereal and snacks that is supposed to notify you to what food is a smart choice? Well, unfortunately that little symbol has created a world of trouble because some of those “smart choices”  like sugar cereal, snack food, and other processed junk are not really that good for you. So what’s happening with the check now?

Foods That Will Help Prevent Heartburn

I suffer from heartburn. It doesn’t happen all of the time, but more often than I would like. It is not fun, it does not feel good, and quite frankly I am absolutely miserable the entire time. If you have been lucky enough never to experience this excruciating disease, be thankful.

Heartburn, otherwise known as acid reflux, is when the acid that’s in your stomach comes back up through your esophagus, and results in burning and pain in your chest. Most of the time it is caused by the food that you eat. There are some foods that will help prevent that horrible burning sensation.

Foods high in fiber and low in fat often help. In the morning, try a breakfast of oatmeal with bananas. Bananas fight stomach acid naturally, so the combination is healthy and perfect for neutralizing acid.

Ginger is nature’s anti-inflammatory. Try ginger tea or ginger ale to sooth your ailing tummy. Some other foods include whole wheat pasta, beans, and applesauce.

Whole wheat pasta, like the oat meal is high in fiber.  Instead of choosing to top the pasta with an acidic tomato sauce, choose a white sauce made from milk, cheese, or broth. Beans are a good source of protein that can be a substitute for heartburn meat, which can cause heartburn. Applesauce is a great alternative to oil or butter when baking.

If you have occasional acid reflux, a change in lifestyle can help. Lose excess weight, eat smaller meals, and avoid foods that trigger heartburn like, fried or fatty foods, chocolate, and peppermint. Avoiding alcohol and nicotine may help as well.

Top Ten Foods For Men

Alright, gentlemen. A post just for you from Menshealth.com – the top ten foods you should be eating. I know some of it veggiessounds fruity (Hey, I’m talking guava here!), but these are things that help improve your health in all departments. Who knows, you may find a new favorite to add to your menu? I’m a big fan of pumpkin seeds myself, because honestly I’m a little tired of almonds and peanuts. If you’re a MnP (meat and potatoes) kind of guy, well, there’s plenty here that maybe you could give a shot just once. I’m sure you’ll get the benefits even if it’s just once, right?

Give one or two a try, and let me know how it goes?
